Factional balance of Albanese's new Cabinet

ALP Left faction has balance of power in Albanese Cabinet.

Factional alignments within the ALP are often categorized as "Left" or "Right," though there are also sub-factions and independent alignments. It is not always clear which member of parliament belongs to which faction, and it is common that shifts occur overtime.

Nevertheless, based on best available information, the following charts give a sense of the factional balance of the newly announced Federal Cabinet (including Outer Ministry).

The first chart lists the names, faction, and position of the minister. The second chart summarises the the factional splits, along with a state-based breakdown.

There are 29 members of the Cabinet and Outer Ministry. Of these 18 (62%) are from the ALP Left faction, and 11 (38%) from the ALP Right.
